Declining in numbers, found in grasslands,freshwater marshes, secondary scrub, and especially in areas of rank grass. 11 cm. Distribution: E India, S China, mainland Southeast Asia, east to Philippines, Sulawesi and Moluccas.

Common migrant to coastal mudflats, sandy beaches, reefs and tidal pools; large numbers over-winter annually. 44 cm. Distribution: breeds in Arctic tundra across N Eurasia and N America; winters on the coast of SW Europe, Africa, Middle East and Indian sub-continent, eat to Australia and the Pacific.

Common migrant to coastal mudflats, sandy beaches, rocky shores and occasionally wet grasslands and ponds with fringing vegetation. 32 cm. Distribution: breeds across N Eurasia, from Scandinavia to E Russia; winters in Africa, Middle East and Indian sub-continent, east to S China, Southeast Asia and Australia.

Common migrant to coastal mudflats, freshwater marshes and wet grassland. 28 cm. Distribution: breeds across Eurasia, including much of Europe, Central Asia, Tibetan Plateau, NE China and E Russia; winters in Africa, Middle East, Indian sub-continent, Southeast Asia and Australia.

Note: Four subspecies: craggi, eurhina, terrignotae, ussuriensis which can only be distinguished from each other confidently when inbreeding plumage.

Common flowerpecker found in secondary forest, old plantations, mangroves, parkland, urban green spaces and wooded road dividers. 9 cm. Distribution: Himalayan foothills, NE India, SE China, mainland Southeast Asia, Thai-Malay Peninsula, Sumatra, Borneo

Found in secondary forests, scrub, old plantations, mangroves and occasionally urban parks; not in primary forests. 30 cm. Distribution: E India, mainland SE Asia, Thai-Malay Peninsula, Sumatra, Java.

Originated from escapees. Found in secondary forests, scrubs, old plantations and occasionally parkland. 27 cm. Distribution: Himalayan foothills, E India to S China and mainland Southeast Asia; Thai-Malay Peninsula to northern half of Peninsula Malaysia,; also introduced into Bali, Java and Singapore.

Found in mangroves, but also coastal scrub and parkland, especially near water. 12 cm. Distribution: S Myanmar, Thai-Malay Peninsula, Greater Sundas, islands off Palawan.

Often referred to as Oriental Honey Buzzard. Migrant and non-breeding winter visitor found in primary and secondary forests, forest edges, scrub and parkland. 53-65 cm. Widespread across much of Indian sub-continent, East and Southeast Asia; northern populations are migratory, wintering in India and Southeast Asia, east to Lesser Sundas.

Common migrant to coastal mudflats, mangroves, estuaries, water bodies with well-vegetated fringes and occasionally wet grasslands. 91 cm. Distribution: widespread across much of Americas, Eurasia, Africa and Australia; most northern populations migrate to winter in the tropics.
