Migrant found in secondary forests, old plantations, mangroves, open scrub, grasslands and parkland. 19 cm. Breeds across C Siberia, east to N China, Korea, Japan, and Kamchatka and south to E Tibetan Plateau; winters in Indian sub-continent, S China, and most of Southeast Asia, east to Sulawesi and Lesser Sundas.

The most widespread species of swallow in the world. Ranges across Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas. There are six subspecies of Barn Swallow, which breed in the northern hemisphere. Four of these species migrate heavily wintering in much of the southern hemisphere, including as far south as central Argentina, the Cape Province in South Africa and northern Australia. A bird of open country but uses man-made structures to breed in. National bird of Austria and Estonia. 17-19 cm.

Found in mangroves, freshwater marshes and wet grassland, including small stands of reeds in parkland. 37 cm. Breeds in N Indian sub-continent and much of E Asia to as far north as Russian Far East and Southeast Asia, east to Philippines.







BLUE-TAILED BEE-EATER

Found in open areas and forests. 23-26 cm. Fairly common winter migrants throughout Sri Lanka, also small flocks breed in eastern dry lowlands.

Common migrant to secondary forests, forest edges, old plantations, scrub and occasionally parkland. 28-35 cm. Distribution: breeds in Himalayan foothills, S and NE India, S China and parts of mainland Southeast Asia; some northern populations are migratory, wintering in mainland Southeast Asia, Thai-Malay Peninsula and Sumatra.

Found in forest and open wooded country. 17 cm. Fairly common from dry lowlands up to drier mid hills; and local in wet zone including up to mid hills.

Lives in open coniferous, broadleaved and mixed forest, secondary growths and open areas up to 1800m. Breeds SE Siberia, Ussuriland, NE China, N & S Korea, Japan; winters Greater Tundra, Philippines, Sulawesi, N Moluccas and parts of SE Asia.
