Also known as Brush-throated Honeyeater. Only bird endemic to Cape York Pen; Range: s. to Archer R. on w. coast, Helenvale on e. coast. Found in paperbarks, tropical heathlands, vine scrubs, eucalypt woodlands. Fairly common. Locally nomadic.

Also known as Red-sided Parrot. 40-43 cm. Found in rainforest; nearby eucalypt woodlands. Range: e. Cape York Pen. (Q), from Pascoe R. s to McIlwaith Ra. Locally common. Sedentary. Also Solomons, PNG, e. Indonesia.

Comment: ‘Reversed’colouring: male is bright green with orange bill, red flanks, flight feathers, bend of wing blue, wing-linings scarlet, dark tail tipped yellow. Female: wine-red, with blue eye-ring, shoulders and broad blue band across chest, wing-lining blue, tail tip orange

Also known as Little Scrubwren. 11.5 cm. Found in rainforests, monsoon forests, vine-scrubs on watercourses. Range: Cape York Pen. (Q), s. to Archer R., Coen and Rocky R. Race minimum occupies n. part of the range; merges with dubious c. Iron Range-Lockhart R. on e. coast and Wedlock-Watson-Archer Rs. in w. Common. Sedentary.

Used to be called White-rumped Swiftlet, also known as Grey Swiftlet. 11-12 cm. Found in airspace over rainforest, cleared lands, beaches, gorges; breeds in isolated caves, cavities between boulders on coastal islands, mountain gorges, hills. Range: coastal ne. Q, continental islands, highland areas to over 1000 m; from Claudie R., s. to Finch Hatton Gorge-Eungella NP, near Mackay. Common below 500 m. Sedentary. Casual se Q, ne NSW, SA.

Also known as Buff-breasted Honeyeater. 18-20 cm. Found in vine scrub; edges of rainforests; eucalyptus woodlands; heathlands, mangroves. Range: n. Cape York Pen. (Q): s. to Aurukun on w. coast; Rocky R. on e. coast. Uncommon. Sedentary.

11-12 cm. Found in rainforest, vine forest, blossoming eucalypt woodlands. Range: e. Cape York Pen. (Q), from Iron Range s. to McIlwraith Ra., w. to near Weipa. Fairly common. Sedentary.

Also known as Man-o'-war Bird or Hawk. Found in tropical or sub-tropical seas, coastlines or islands. Range: breeds on islands in Coral Sea, incl. outer Gt Barrier Reef. Largest local breeding stations are Christmas and Cocos Is. in Indian Ocean. Scarce coastal n. Aust.; regular on islands of Gt Barrier Reef and offshore s. to Fraser Is (Q); casual coastal se Q and ne. NSW. 

Comment:  when first named 1789, it was called the Lesser Pelican, Pelecanus minor, so the Latin minor still stands.

26-30 cm. Found in dense coastal vegetation: cypress pine scrubs, mangrove fringes; eucalypts, paperbarks, with tall grass, scattered bushes; thickets on watercourses. Range: from Cape York (Q) s. to c. Silver Plains, e. of Coen. Locally fairly common. Sedentary.
