Found mainly in freshwater marshes and paddy fields, and sometimes at tidal mudflats and estuaries. 70 cms. Range: Africa, the Oriental region and Australasia: partly migratory; resident on Java, Sumatra, Bali and north Sulawesi; a locally common, non-breeding visitor on other islands.

Found in open woodlands, along forest edges and in cultivated areas; also frequent visitor to villages and gardens….even enters houses to pickup nesting material. 10 cms. Range: Indonesian endemic: locally common resident on Java, Bali and Lombok.

Also known as Lesser Golden Plover. During migrations frequents estuaries, mangroves and tidal mudflats, as well as grasslands and fields behind the shoreline; often seen on airfields and golf-fields near the sea. 25 cm. Breeds in Siberia and Alaska, winters in the south reaching NZ; fairly common migrant and winter visitor throughout coastal Indonesia.

Widespread and numerous shorebird. Found onmudflats, mangroves and estuaries, as well as sandy shores and coral reefs; occasionally in freshwater marshes and fields behind the coast. 43 cm. Range: Worldwide: breeds in temperate northern hemisphere winters in the south; common passage and winter visitor throughout Indonesia.

Found in coastal woodland habitats, from mangroves and forest edges to scrubs and rural gardens. 18 cm. Range: south-east Asia: widespread and common resident in Sumatra, Kalimantan, Java and Bali.
