Found in broadleaved evergreen, semi-evergreen and mixed deciduous forest, bamboo; up to 1,020 m. Resident (some movements) S China; fairly common, to common resident CSE Myanmar, Tenasserim, Thailand (except C.S), Indochina (except S Annam).

Migrant to coastal mudflats, mangroves, estuaries, water bodies with well-vegetated fringes and occasionally wet grasslands. 91 cm. Distribution: widespread across much of Americas, Eurasia, Africa and Australia; most northern populations migrate to winter in the tropics.

Common migrant to open habitats, including wet grasslands, golf courses, playing fields and bare ground, usually near water. 18 cm. Breeds across C and E Siberia, Mongolia, NE China, Japan to W Alaska; winters in S China, Taiwan and much of Southeast Asia, east to New Guinea and Australia.

Largest marsh tern, 25-27 cm, wingspan 70 cm. Found in vegetated and open wetland; brackish, saline lakes; saltfields, irrigated land, sewerage ponds. C. h. hybrida breeds in warmer parts of Europe and the Palearctic (northwestern Africa and central and southern Europe to southeastern Siberia, eastern China and south to Pakistan and northern India). The smaller-billed and darker C. h. delalandii is found in east and south Africa, and the paler C. h. javanicus from Java to Australia.

Found in gardens, orchards, plantations, secondary woodlands and mangroves, extends to edges of logged forests, cultivation and forested riverbanks. 20 cm. Resident throughout Indian sub-continent, southern third China and SE Asia to Peninsula Malaysia, Singapore, Sumatra, Borneo, Java, Bali and most of Philippines.

Also known as Spice Finch, Spice Bird, Scaly-breasted Munia or Scaly Breasted Mannikin. Found in grasslands, crops, rank roadside growth urban wastelands, lantana thickets, vineyards. 10.5-11.5 cm. Range: native from India to s. China, Malaysia, Philippines to e. Indonesia.

Found in secondary scrub, old plantations and parkland, occasionally straying into urban green spaces. 36 cm. Himalayan foothills, NE India, S China, mainland Southeast Asia, Borneo, Java.
