Open country species, locally numerous after forest clearances; seen in fields and grasslands, often near swampy areas; occurs from coast, inland to montane elevations. 11 cms. Range: Africa and Eurasia into northern Australia: In Indonesia a widespread and common resident on Sumatra, Java, Bali and parts of Wallacea and Papua.
