PACIFIC GOLDEN PLOVER

Found in open grasslands, near water, mudflats, dry paddy fields and lagoon shores. 23-26 cm. Fairly common winter migrant to lowlands, more common in dry lowlands.

Common winter visitor and passage migrant; found on coastal mudflats, sandy shores, wet grasslands and open scrubby fields, including playing fields. Breeds in Arctic tundra across NE Russia and Alaska; winters in East Africa, Indian sub-continent and access S China and Southeast Asia, east to SW Pacific.

Also known as Lesser Golden Plover. During migrations frequents estuaries, mangroves and tidal mudflats, as well as grasslands and fields behind the shoreline; often seen on airfields and golf-fields near the sea. 25 cm. Breeds in Siberia and Alaska, winters in the south reaching NZ; fairly common migrant and winter visitor throughout coastal Indonesia.

Also known as Eastern or Lesser Golden Plover. Found in estuaries, mudflats, salt marshes, mangroves, rocky reefs and stranded seaweed on beaches, margins of shallow open inland swamps, sewerage ponds, short-grassed paddocks, airfields. Breeds in ne. Siberia and w. Alaska, summer migrant to PNG and Australia; mostly coastal, all Australian coast, but sometimes inland.
