Also known as Asian Pied Hornbill. 70 cms. Seems to prefer forest edges and other broken habitats rather than primary closed rest as other Indonesian hornbills; often found along rivers, in open coastal forest and nearby plantations; but must have access to growing hardwood trees with cavities for nesting.Oriental region: widespread and fairly common resident on Sumatra and many nearby islands, and in Kalimantan; uncommon on Java and Bali.
