58-64 cm, wingspan 84-92 cm. Ranges all over Australia except the inland. Also in Malaysia, Indonesia to PNG, Solomons, New Caledonia, NZ and some sub-Antartic Islands. Found on coasts, islands, inlets, inland waters, house dams, roadside ditches.
