Mainly freshwater bird found in extensive swamps and adjacent, flooded paddy fields; sometimes around mangroves and tidal estuaries. 90 cm. Range: Africa and Eurasia: generally uncommon but locally numerous resident throughout the Greater Sundras and east into parts of Wallacea.
