Found in paperbark woodlands, waterside thickets, blossoming eucalypt woodlands, mangroves; ventures far from cover; perches dead trees. 11-13 cm. Range: coastal ne Q. and islands: from Cape York (Q) s. on w. coast to Archer R.; on e. coast s. to c. Bowen; inland to Coen-Atherton Tableland. Common, patchier in higher, drier parts of range. Migratory, or seasonally nomadic.

Found in heathlands, woodlands, forests; tropical and sub-tropical forests; timbered watercourses; hills and gorges. 50-60 cm; wingspan to 1.3 m. Range: uncommon to rare and sparse, In coastal and sub-coastal se Aust. and sw. WA it is rare but regular breeding migrant. Sedentary; part-migratory. Rare.

Found in rainforests in coastal ranges of ne. Q; lawns near same. 21 cm. Range: mostly above 400 m in highland rainforests of ne Q, from Mt Amos, near Cooktown, to Mt Spec near Townsville; inland to Herbert Ra., but to sea-level where habitat continuous. Common.

1.2-1.5 m; wingspan to 2.5 m. Range: Asian species, first recorded in Aust. near Normanton (Q) in 1966.Now extends from se Gulf to near Cape York; e. from c. Burketown to Atherton Tableland, s. toTownsville-Ayr and inland to c. Julia Ck. Smaller number on w. Gulf lowlands and Kimberley (WA). Locally common on Atherton Tablelands in ne Q.; sparse elsewhere. Part migratory; dispersive.
