Also known in Australia as Indian Myna. In New Zealand a locally abundant Asian introduction, covering most of the North Island. 24 cm. Found in parks, gardens, orchards, farmland and sometimes on forest margins.

Formerly endemic to Java and Bali but spread or introduced throughout Malaysia, the bulk of the Malaysian Peninsula was colonised after 1970. Now most common myna in southern half of peninsula. 25 cm.

Usually treated as conspecific with Common Hill Myna. Found in wooded areas and forest edges and adjoining gardens. 25 cm. Locally rather than common breeding resident from wet lowlands to mid hills, rare and local in dry lowlands.

Also known as Indian myna or mynah. An omnivorous open woodland bird with a strong territorial instinct; very adaptive to urban environment, so much so it was listed in 2000 as the world's most invasive species. 23 cm. Native to Asia; but introduced to other parts of the world, such as Canada, Australia, Israel, New Zealand, Hawaii, South Africa and Florida, as well as others.

Historically confined to the coastal forest of north-west Bali it has now been reintroduced there and on the island of Nusa Penida. 25 cm. Indonesian endemic: a rare resident along the north-west coast of Bali only. Critically endangered with global extinction.

Note: Historically confined to the coastal forest of north-west Bali; While previously found in flocks of hundreds in the area of the north-west of Bali the world population was down to 6 individuals in 2001. Breeding programs are helping this bird recover. Though there may be as many as 1,000 birds in captivity around the world.

Sometimes spelt mynah, and was formerly known simply as Hill Mynah. Range across hill regions of South Asia and Southeast Asia. 29 cm long. Often found in agricultural crops. Very loud noisy bird, often kept as pets.

COMMON MYNA

Also known as Indian myna or Mynah. It is 23-25 cms. The myna was introduced to Australia from Asia in the 1860s. It is now widely considered a pest. It inhabits urban areas and agricultural areas. Found in an area around Laura/Mossman in northern Queensland, Brisbane, and from the NSW north coast down into most of Victoria. Found in pairs and loose flocks.
