Found in secondary forests, forest edges, scrub and old plantations. Male: 78 cm, female: 43 cm. Distribution: much of Indian sub-continent, S China and mainland Southeast Asia, east to Sumatra, Java, Philippines.; widely introduced.

Found in primary and secondary forest forest edge, old plantation and scrub in parkland, especially during passage. 33 cm. Distribution: Indian sub-continent and across East Asia as far north as Russian Far East; also across Greater Sundas and Philippines; northern populations are migratory, wintering in Southeast Asia, parts of India.

Common migrant to secondary forests, forest edges, old plantations, scrub and occasionally parkland. 28-35 cm. Distribution: breeds in Himalayan foothills, S and NE India, S China and parts of mainland Southeast Asia; some northern populations are migratory, wintering in mainland Southeast Asia, Thai-Malay Peninsula and Sumatra.

Common winter visitor and passage migrant occurring in large numbers on sandy beaches and mudflats, rarely inland. 20 cm. Breeds in parts of NE Siberia to Chukorta, and NE China, with disjunction populations in Central Asia and Tibetan Plateau; winters along coasts of S and E Africa, Middle East, Indian sub-continent, S China, Southeast Asia, New Guinea and Australia.
