Migrant to primary and secondary forest, old plantations, scrub and parkland. 25-30 cm. Breeds in E  and NE China, Korea and Russian Far East; winters across much of Southeast Asia, east to Philippines, Sulawesi and New Guinea.

Rare migrant to primary and secondary forest, old plantations, scrub and occasionally parkland. 19 cm,  23 cm tail. Breeds in Japan, Korea and islands off Taiwan; winters in Thai-Malay Peninsula, Sumatra, Borneo and Java.

Note: only females seen in Singapore.

Found in mangroves, coastal scrub, and urban parklands, including narrow strips of ornamental trees beside carparks and along roadsides. 13 cm. Distribution: Thai-Maly Peninsula, and Greater Sundas east to the Lesser Sundas.

Found in open scrub and grassland, including near wet areas. 38 cm. Distribution: Indian sub-continent, S China, and Southeast Asia, east to Greater Sundas, parts of Maluka and Lesser Sundas.

Found in primary and secondary forest, mangroves, forest edge, scrub, old plantations, parkland and even urban greenspaces. 13 cm. breeds across C Siberia and the Russian Far East, south to NE China, Korea and Japan; winters across S India to Southeast Asia, Thai-Malay Peninsula, Greater Sundas and Philippines; non-migratory populations occur inIndian sub-contijnet, mainland Southeast Asia and Borneo.

Note: Unusual symbiotic relationship with tree ants; builds its nest in ants' nest while feeding on ants of other nests.
