Found in open scrub and grassland, including near wet areas. 38 cm. Distribution: Indian sub-continent, S China, and Southeast Asia, east to Greater Sundas, parts of Maluka and Lesser Sundas.

Mainly open country; benefitted from forest clearings, quickly invading new grassland areas, marshes and cultivation. 42 cms. Distribution: Oriental region; widespread and common resident in the Sundra and Wallacea subregions.

Also known as Cane Pheasant and Swamp Pheasant. 50-70 cmd. Ranges across the top of mainland Australia and down the east coast as far as Sydney. Found in grassy swamps and flats, wet heathlands, rank growth in clearings, wastelands, sugar-cane, roadsides, mangrove-fringes, lantana thickets.
