Found mainly in larger tanks, and coastal lagoons. 80-100 cm. Rather rare breeding resident in dry lowlands, and very rarely in wet lowlands.

Found on the banks and in shallow waters of freshwaters, coastal lagoons and tidal mudflats. 36-44 cm. Common winter migrant (race limosa) to mainly coastal area of dry lowlands, rare in wet zone coast; race melanuroides has occurred as a vagrant.
