Found on the banks and in shallow waters of freshwaters, coastal lagoons and tidal mudflats. 36-44 cm. Common winter migrant (race limosa) to mainly coastal area of dry lowlands, rare in wet zone coast; race melanuroides has occurred as a vagrant.

Found in tidal mudflats and estuaries; waterways in mangroves; salt marshes, freshwater wetlands. 37-42 cm. Range: breeds Alaska to Hudson Bay, Canada; winters in far s. S. America; some reach Nz almost annually. In Aust. summer vagrant to coastal mudflats (NSW, Vic, Tas, SA)

36-43 cm. Ranges across most of Australian mainland except driest central WA, w. SA, sw NT and Tasmania. Found tidal mudflats, estuaries, sandspits, sewerage ponds, shallow river margins, inland on large shallow fresh or brackish waters.
