Found in secondary forests, forest edges, scrub and old plantations. Male: 78 cm, female: 43 cm. Distribution: much of Indian sub-continent, S China and mainland Southeast Asia, east to Sumatra, Java, Philippines.; widely introduced.

Found along forest edges, in drought deciduous woodlands and savanna; often observed near the coast, as well as inland to 2,000 m. Males 70 cm; females 40 cm. Indonesian endemic: widespread and fairly common resident throughout Java, Bali. Lombok, Sumbawa, Flores, Alor, Sumba and some smaller adjacent islands.

Found mostly in lowland rainforests, beach and vine scrubs. 40-50 cm. Range: n. Aust. and islands; from nw Kimberley (WA), to e. Arnham Land and Groote Island (NT); in Q, from MitchellR., w. Cape York Pen. and islands in Torres Strait, s. on e coast to near Byfield. Common; sedentary.

Known locally in the Philippines as Labuyo. Range from Tamil Nadu, South India east across southern China and into Malaysia, the Philippines and Indonesia. Thought to be ancestor of domestic chicken.
