Photographed in north-west Bali October 2016 |
(855) YELLOW-EARED BARBET Psilopogon australis
INDONESIA (Bali) (76)
Found in primary forest and edges in lowlands and foothills; mainly evergreen forest. 17 cms. Range: Java and Bali.
NOTE: another contentious species. Used to be lumped with Psilopogon cycantis and Psilopogon duvaucelii, and called Blue-eared Barbet. The Blue-eared Barbet has red around the face, however in the Javan and Bali species this red is replaced by yellow, hence the name Yellow-eared Barbet. Also listed by Clements as Little Barbet.
