Forages in middle and especially lower level of forests and well-wooded country. 14 cm. Common, widespread resident.

NOTE: Nepal taxon, Cinereous Tit P. cinereus, often treated as seperate species but not enough information known yet.

In Kalimantan restricted to coastal mangroves; rest of Indonesia open woodlands and along forest edges inland. 13 cm. Distribution: Eurasia and the Orient region: widespread and common resident on Sumatra, Java and Bali; locally common in south Kalimantan and parts of Nusa Tenggara.

Found in rainforests, eucalyptus forests/woodlands; in inland se Australia river red gums on watercourses, especially saplings or young trees; also acacia, coastal tea tree, banksia or cypress pines, golf courses and gardens. Range sw WA, Top End, around Rockhampton area, a pocket near Adelaide and down east coast and inland from Tropic to SA border. At present there are three sub-species.

Also known simply as Black Tit. Range in semi-circular arc from Angola to Eastern Cape Province in South Africa. Found mainly in tropical and sub-tropical savanna woodlands, prefers woodlands dominated by broad-leafed trees. 16 cm.

Widespread and common in Europe, Middle East, Central and Northern Asia and parts of North Africa with woods. 12.5-14 cm. Very vocal and has up to 40 calls. Found in open deciduous woodlands, mixed forests, dense forests. Does not migrate except extreme winters. Monogamous, establishes a territory which it keeps. Lays 12 eggs in a batch, usually raises two broods a season.

Also known as Bark or Buff-rumped Tit, or Varied Thornbill. Range s. and se. mainland, from Atherton in the n., through most of NSW except nw, all of Vict., and across to Adelaide. Found in open stringy bark forest, woodland, scrub and golf courses. 11 cm.
