Prefers forests as well as plantations and other wooded areas. 55-65 cm. Passage migrant and resident  in Malaysian Peninsula. Subspecies tortquatus and orientalis both recorded.

Also known as Crested Honey-buzzard. Mostly in well wooded areas. 57-60 cm. Fairly rare breeding resident; population much increased by winter migrants.

Often referred to as Oriental Honey Buzzard. Migrant and non-breeding winter visitor found in primary and secondary forests, forest edges, scrub and parkland. 53-65 cm. Widespread across much of Indian sub-continent, East and Southeast Asia; northern populations are migratory, wintering in India and Southeast Asia, east to Lesser Sundas.

Turns up in a variety of forested habitats, from primary rainforest to open woodlands. 50 cms. Distribution: Oriental region and northeast Asia: northern populations migrate; Sundra resident race (with a crest) is uncommon; migratory race is a winter visitor extending into parts of Sulawesi and Nusa Tenggara.
