Also known as Long-tailed Honey-buzzard. Singly or in pairs soars over Forrests, circling and patrolling open corridors beneath canopy; feeds mainly on insects, lizards, and bird’s eggs. Endemic to NG, uncommon resident.

Distribution: Oriental region and northeast Asia: northern populations migrate; Sundra resident race (with a crest) is uncommon; migratory race is a winter visitor extending into parts of Sulawesi and Nusa Tenggara.

Ranges across e. inland Aust., coastal n. and w. Aust; se. Q., s. NSW, s. WA. 51-61 cm; windspan c. 1.5 m; female larger.
