Found in open forests, woodlands, especially near rivers, wetlands; rainforest fringes. 50-61 cm, span to 1.35 m, Female much larger. Range: coastal and sub-coastal n. and ne. Aust. , from Kimberley (WA), formerly s. to Sydney but rarely seen s. of Q-NSW border. Rare, declining.

Also known as Black Goshawk and Great Sparrowhawk. Found in forests and non-desert areas south of the Sahara. Likes areas where there are tall trees for nesting, but also human altered habitat. Preys on birds of moderate size in suburban areas. 40-54 cm, wingspan 77-105 cm.

Also known as Australian goshawk. 40-50 cm, span 70 cm to c. 1m, female larger. Common across all of Australia mainland and Tasmania. Found in open forests, woodland, scrubland, farmland, parks and gardens.

Also known as Variable or White Goshawk. 40-54 cmd, wingspan to 1.1 m. Female larger. Single or pairs. Sits in dead or emergent trees hunting. Rainforests, forests, woodlands. Found in Tasmania, across northern Australia and down coast (to about 200 kms inland) around to Adelaide.
