FAWN-BREASTED BOWERBIRD

26-30 cm. Found in dense coastal vegetation: cypress pine scrubs, mangrove fringes; eucalypts, paperbarks, with tall grass, scattered bushes; thickets on watercourses. Range: from Cape York (Q) s. to c. Silver Plains, e. of Coen. Locally fairly common. Sedentary.

The smallest of the Bowerbirds, 23-25 cm. Found in highland rainforests. Range: highlands of ne Q; from Mount Cook, near Endeavour River, s. to Mt Elliot NP, near Townsville, above 900 m; lower in winter. Locally common. Sedentary.

Also known as Stagemaker or Toothbilled Catbird. 26-27 cm. Found in highland rainforests and vine scrubs; occasionally venturing to nearby thickets and plantations. Range: highlands of ne. Q, between 500 and 1400 m, occasionally lower; from Mt Amos, near Cooktown, s. to Mt Elliot near Townsville (Q). Common, sedentary.

34-38 cm. Found in drier woodlands, shrubs/thickets; near water, outer urban areas, parks, gardens. Range from c. Broome (WA) through Kimberley, Top End (NT) s. to about Elliott; Gulf Coast s. to Nicholson, O'Shannassy, upper Flinders Rs; occasional s. to Mt Isa (Q); C. York Pen., coastal to near Mackay.

(WA), Pilbara to coast c. eighty Mile Beach, s. to GascoyneR.-Cue-Kathleen Valley-Leonora. Found in rocky hills, frequently visits rock figs.

Found in rain forests, coastal scrub, raspberry thickets, orchards, gardens. Range coastal side of Great Divide from Mackay to fringes of Sydney. 25-30 cm.

28-32 cm. Found in rainforests, eucalypt forests and woodlands, orchards. Range down east coast from just above Brisbane to Melbourne and pocket around Townsville area. (Though have photographed in Bunya Mountains, southern Queensland)
