Found in broad-leafed evergreen forest, bamboo; from 1,000-2,480 m down to 150 m. 17.5-19.5 cm. In SE Asia uncommon resident, locally subject to some movement.

Resident throughout Indian sub-continent, southern third China and SE Asia to Peninsula Malaysia, Singapore, Sumatra, Borneo, Java, Bali and most of Philippines.

NORFOLK ROBIN

Also known as Pacific Robin, Norfolk Island Scarlet Robin and Norfolk Island Robin. It was considered cospecific with the Scarlet Robin but was separated in 1999 and became part of the Pacific Robin family. In 2015 it was determined to be a distinct species. Found in native sub-tropical rainforests, with lower densities in other wooded habitat; it prefers areas with a dense understory and an open ground layer with deep, moist litter for foraging. Range: endemic to Norfolk Island, restricted to Mt Pitt section of NP, and nearby pockets of remnant forest.

BUFF-SIDED ROBIN

Was sub-species of White-browed Robin. Found mainly in riverine gallery forest, monsoon rainforest, deciduous vine scrubs, bamboo and pandanus thickets. 15-17 cm. Range: from Gregory R. in Gulf lowlands (Q), w. on middle to low reaches of rivers, marginally to mangroves, to w. Kimberley region and upper Fitroy R. (WA). Locally, patchy, generally uncommon. Declined in Kimberley due to destruction of waterside thickets by cattle and burning.

16-18 cm. Found mostly in highland rainforests and margins of tracks, roads, lawns in rainforest parks, but to near sea-level where habitat runs unbroken down from highlands. Range: ne. Queensland: coastal highlands (and some lowlands) from near Cooktown to My. Spec, near Townsville. Common. Sedentary.

14-17 cm. Found in Q. in rainforests, vine scrub, vegetation along watercourses; coastal scrubs, nearby eucalypt woodlands, especially in wet season. In nw. Aust. pockets of monsoon rainforest, swamp woodlands, bamboo and pandanus thickets by watercourses and springs; mangroves. Range: Nominate race: coastal ne Q, vegetation rivers and streams; highland rainforests n. from Rockhampton to C. York, s. to Mitchell R. on w. Pen. coast. race cerviniventris: from Gregory R., in Gulf lowlands (Q), w. on streams, rivers, marginally to mangroves, to w. Kimberley region and upper Fitzroy R. (WA). Local, patchy; generally uncommon. Sedentary.

14.5-16.5 cm. Found in dense, low thickets of coastal mangroves; on coasts, tidal creeks, river mouths. Range: coastal tropical Aust. from c. NW Cape (WA) to c. Proserpine (Q), with breaks where mangroves absent; points on Gulf coast (Q). Locally common.
