Common migrant to coastal mudflats, sandy beaches, reefs and tidal pools; large numbers over-winter annually. 44 cm. Distribution: breeds in Arctic tundra across N Eurasia and N America; winters on the coast of SW Europe, Africa, Middle East and Indian sub-continent, eat to Australia and the Pacific.
