Also known as Long-tailed Skua. Breeds in Arctic of Eurasia and North America, with major populations in Russia, Alaska, and Canada. Winters in the south Atlantic and pacific. Feeds on fish which are mainly caught from other sea birds, smaller birds, food scraps, small mammals, fruit and carrion. Regular but uncommon visitor to off-shore Australian waters.

Also known as Pomarine Skua. 46-52 cm, wingspan 1.25-1.4 m. Breeds from Finland to e. Siberia; Arctic Alaska, Canada, Greenland. Migrates to oceans, offshore waters of s. continents. Arrives in Aust. offshore waters Oct-Nov. departs April-May. Uncommon.

Ranges all around the coast of Australia during Oct-Nov. and leaves in April. Breeds in Arctic. 41-46 cm including tail of 10 cm or more, span 1.1-1.25 m.
