ORIENTAL PIED HORNBILL

Photographed in north-west Bali October 2016
(857)              ORIENTAL PIED HORNBILL                 Anthracoceros albirostris

INDONESIA (Bali)         (78)

Also known as Asian Pied Hornbill. 70 cms. Seems to prefer forest edges and other broken habitats rather than primary closed rest as other Indonesian hornbills; often found along rivers, in open coastal forest and nearby plantations; but must have access to growing hardwood trees with cavities for nesting.Oriental region: widespread and fairly common resident on Sumatra and many nearby islands, and in Kalimantan; uncommon on Java and Bali.
