Found on wooded edges of rivers, tanks and lakes. 69-74 cm. Uncommon breeding resident in dry lowlands and occasionally in adjoining wet zone areas.

Common in primary and secondary forest, old plantations and scrub adjacent to inland water bodies, less frequently in coastal areas. 69-74 cm. Distribution: Indian sub-continent, S China and much of Southeast Asia, east to Sulawesi.
