Encountered in mangroves, beach scrub, plantations and open country, usually on prominent vantage points. 30 cm. Resident from India to Southeast Asia and Australia; populations ar augmented by migrants from the north.

Common resident and migrant of secondary forests, forest edge, scrub, old plantations and parkland, occasionally in mangroves. 30 cm. Widespread across much of East India, E Asia to as far north as the Russian Far East, and Southeast Asia east to Australia and New Guinea.

The Dollarbird is a breeding migrant to Australia (Sept.-April) from PNG and e Indonesia. It is located on the edges of rain forests, woodlands, watercourses, wetlands and farmlands. Across the north of Australia Kimberleys and down east coast into Victoria. Distinctive 'kak kak kak kak kak' call.
