GREAT KNOT

Also known as Slender-billed Knot or Striped-crowned Knot. 26-28 cm. Found in tidal mudflats, sandy ocean and bay shores; estuaries; shallow saline and freshwater wetlands. Breeds in ne. Siberia, migrates to India, s and se Asia, Indonesia, PNG and NZ. Sept-March to coastal Aust. and Tas., inland in nw Q., nw Vic. Common in Top End(NT) to coastal nw. WA, where may gather in flocks of 20 000. Some will over-winter in northern Aust.
